

IJ Research is the company that you can rely on hermetic seals of your critical components throughout
your subsequent processing. Subsequent processing can include welding, soldering, brazing, various
assembling, etc. The hermeticity will be in the range of 1x 10-9 He std cc/sec at 1 atm diff.
Our seals are not only with the processing of so-called Glass to Metal Seal and Ceramic to Metal Seal,
but also with the processing of various welding, soldering, brazing, diffusion bonding, etc.
In order to maintain the high level of hermeticity throughout the applications by customers, IJ Research
innovatively processes the seals, bonds and/or joints using its high level control over its thermo-mechanical
behavior of the materials during each process.
It is important to optimize the process parameters of process gas composition and its partial pressure,
sealing material (glass, ceramic, solder, braze) and temperature along with rates of heating up and down, etc.
When/if a sealing material has to go through its microstructural phase change, IJ Research certainly
controls its nucleation and crystallization parameters so that final seal would attain a proper ratio
of vitreous and devitrified phases and also obtain the desirable level of thermal expansion of the sealing
material that closely match to its mating components of housing (or flange) and conductor leads (pins or tubing).
When/if a particular sealing material has to go through its optimized oxidation/reduction process, IJ
Research certainly controls its thickness of the sealing area surface so that the final seal would attain
its maximum interfacial adhesion strength. The adhesion strength IJ Research provides is usually far
greater than customers’ actual requirements and this is one of the reasons why IJ Research products hardly rejected by the customers.
In the order processes, IJ Research reviews drawings and specifications at the contract review. The
review meetings often times go together with customers.
As we have been demonstrated in many projects of next to impossible combinations of the materials and
processes, we are ready to take care of your needs of seals, bonds or joints. It can be again 300 series
SST to Corning 7740 (Pyrex from Corning Glass) and to Si semiconductor for a
hermetic seal for its application temperature range of -300C to +300C. This is just one of the examples
that we proudly offer in challenging projects.
Sapphire to metal seals or sapphire – metal bonds are our common joints for various applications
and IJ Research has been a leading sapphire and metal joining company in world. Many of them are
autoclavable for thousand cycles.
In-house plating capability supports this hermetic sealing process and its salt spray test requirement.
In-house welding capability also supports this hermetic sealing process of similar materials joining in
addition to the dissimilar materials joining as shown in ceramic to metal and glass to metal seals.
Most of our medical components are started with IJ Research R & D on prototypes before they went to production
lots. Some examples are cochlear implants, defibrillators or cardiac pacemaker parts, surgical knives, medical sensors and optics.
